Sur is a coastal city in Oman's Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, facing the Arabian Sea along a coastline shaped by sheltered bays, rocky headlands, and fishing communities. The city is particularly known for its maritime heritage and traditional wooden dhow building, which remains an important part of its identity. One of Sur's most distinctive details is its continued association with the ghanjah, a large traditional sailing vessel once used for long-distance trade. The city's shipyards, maritime museum, harbor, and fishing traditions together preserve a clear connection between contemporary Sur and Oman's seafaring culture.
